What's a diamond "cert"?

A diamond certificate is the grading report issued with the diamond. It comes from a recognized lab like GIA, Stuller or AGS. There are a lot of "fake" certs floating around and the Diva suggests you verify the paper to the stone. In years past, the cert would have a "plot" or internal information about the diamond plotted on the paperwork. But alas, today, we have digital images and diamond inscriptions on the girdle line so plots are not needed on the cert.

The girdle is that frosty line that goes around the thick part of a diamond. You aren't stuck with numbers and random letters. Why not Britney loves Danny or something equally romantic.

The Diva suggests finding a a Certified Gemologist Appraiser. This is a Gradaute Gemologist with specialty training in gemstone appraising. (www.ags.org) A graduate gemologist has training in the evaluation or grading but not a lot in the valuation or pricing the diamond in the correct market for the sale.

Sorry my dears

So sorry my dears, I forgot to tell you that the 6.05 carat diamond is now being beautifully displayed on the hand of a most appreciative recipient. She is currently on her way to Cloud Nine!

The diva shall be on the look for more beautiful, larger diamonds for her subjects, so thou must come back for more!

Appraising Diamonds

The diva has spent this past weekend updating her already vast knowledge of appraising diamonds by attending the International Society of Appraisers Conference in Chicago. (http://www.isa-appraisers.org/) This is a very elite group of professional appraisers, not just jewelry, but fine art, household contents, machinery, almost anything except real estate.

As my readers know I have large diamonds for sale and must be on top of the game to stay ahead of others on the interest who are only in it for quick money. One needs to know the 4 c's of cut ,color, clarity and carat weight and add the 5th C of confidence. I shall deal more with actual appraisals in the next few blogs, so stay tuned!

Diamonds are forever

Sing with me...diamonds are forever, forever, etc. and I love them. Heart shape or pear shape, they don't lose their shape, diamonds are a girl's best friend!!!!

The diva has been helping to instruct a jewelry wire wrapping class today. The Gem and Mineral Club of North Mississippi members taught many enthusiastic students to make their own necklaces, earrings and "cages". We suppplied them with amethysts, rose quartz, hematite, lapis and other goodies to practice making their jewelry. I can just see a beautiful one carat diamond rough enticingly encased in a silver wire wrapped cage pendant! Talk about one of a kind!
