Gold at $940.00, platinum at $2,185.00 and now
silver is over $18.00. What next…gas at $4.00 a gallon? It could happen! Sometimes I get so caught up in the world that
I forget what I do has nothing to do with cost.
Take last week for example. A gentleman came in to thank me for all the years of being there for him and his wife. They met and married 17 years ago after both losing spouses and I sold them their wedding rings. They giggled and cooed like teenagers! He smiled as he recalled the look on her face when he gave her the ring and popped the question. I smiled as I remembered her telling me how exciting it was to be in love a second time and at her age! They came to see me every anniversary, Christmas and birthday. They were truly in love and he enjoyed giving her jewelry to mark the occasions. His face saddened as he stumbled to tell me that it had taken him three months to come by and tell me that his beloved had died. He shared the final days of hope and sorrow with me. We cried together for a moment. Then he composed himself and told me that my store had always been the scene of very happy moments for him and he wanted to keep it that way. He also wanted to keep her jewelry for a while longer before passing it on to her children. Did I think that would be all right? Of course, I reassured him. "It gives me joy to remember all those special occasions...those tender moments.....once again", he said. The look in his eyes, a mixture of moisture and love will remain in my mind forever.
